Which font size and style looks best in a photo book?
The best font size and style depends on how and where you're using the text — but here are some handy tips to help you get a polished result:
Recommended fonts
Stick to strong, easy-to-read fonts like Arial, Verdana, or Calibri — especially if you're placing text over coloured or transparent backgrounds. These sans-serif fonts tend to stand out more clearly and are less likely to fade into the background.
Avoid serifed fonts (like Times New Roman or Garamond) for small text on coloured backgrounds, unless you use them in bold and at larger sizes (14pt+).
Suggested font sizes
10–12pt is great for paragraphs of text or longer captions
14pt+ works well for short quotes or descriptive text
20pt and above is ideal for titles, headings, or emphasis
Tip: Font sizes vary between font types — for example, Arial 12pt will appear slightly larger than Times New Roman 12pt. If you're unsure how a font size will look in print, try typing the same font in different sizes in a word processor, print it out, and compare.
